Programming Laptop Buying Guide

Programming is a lot of fun and you can have a lot of fun if you have a good programming laptop. In this section, we will look at the factors you should consider before buying a laptop for programming.

What factors are important when programming a laptop?

Since programming is a broad niche, you should generally choose a well-designed laptop that supports programming in as many languages and platforms as possible. Some people think you need very powerful laptops to program. Well, it’s not. The following points should be considered when buying a laptop for programming.

Choose an i5 or i7 core
Choose 8 GB RAM or more
Choose a laptop with a minimum size of 14 inches

Processor

The most important factor to consider when programming a laptop is the processor, as it determines the efficiency and speed of your computer. In programming, each step, such as. B. Code compilation, debugging, model and data loading, and program execution, a reliable and efficient processor.

We recommend upgrading to an Intel i5 or i7 processor. A processor slower than an i5 is not recommended. If you are running very demanding and complex applications with an i3 processor or less, your system will slow down and begin to crash.

An Intel i5 processor is sufficient for most programming tasks, but you get the best performance and the fastest operation with an i7 processor. You need an i7 processor if you’re developing high-demand applications. If speed and performance are important to you, choose a laptop with an i7 processor. However, note that the i7 processor is more expensive than the i5.

RAM

When it comes to memory, don’t choose a laptop with less than 8 GB. A laptop with 6 GB RAM can meet the needs of students and light programs. But a laptop with 4 GB RAM for programming is a big NO. With 8GB of RAM, you’ll have plenty of room to code smoothly. The operating system and background processes use less than 3 GB of RAM, and the remaining 5 GB is sufficient for the development environment and other applications. That’s enough for all standard programming software, but if you’re developing complex programs and need more memory, look for a 16GB programming laptop.

HDD

If you don’t have a fixed budget, opt for an SSD. Because it is a faster way and the development usually also depends on the storage capacity of your laptop. In such scenarios, using a standard hard drive is not a good solution. Some people prefer a hybrid hard drive over a true SSD. This approach may give you extra storage space and fast boot times, but the experience you get with a true SSD is second to none.

Space

In our opinion, 256 GB is sufficient for most cases. If you don’t like that, you can buy 512GB, but it will cost you more. In the worst case, you can buy an external hard drive.

Screen size

In general, we recommend a screen size of 13 inches or larger. Because the smaller of the two is too small and distracting to work in any environment. For laptop programming, a 14-inch screen is the minimum requirement. A laptop with a 15-inch screen offers more living space, while a 17-inch laptop is an ideal choice in terms of screen size, but not portable enough.
If portability is important to you, a 14-inch laptop is recommended, as is a 17-inch laptop. You can find the golden mean by buying a 15-inch laptop, as it is portable and provides enough screen area to easily write code and run programs.

Screen Quality

Screen quality is important for graphic designers. They have nothing to do with the quality of the screen itself, but for the sake of your eyes, buy a good screen anyway. Since programmers have to work with laptops for hours a day, a bad screen will make the programming process laborious and difficult.

Graphics card

Again: Gamers need a graphics card. So there is no need for a powerful graphics card in a software laptop. An integrated graphics card will meet your needs. But when you get into 3D development, good graphics should also be important to you.

Keyboard and touchpad

A programmer needs a good comfortable keyboard in a laptop to program, because programmers don’t have time to worry about typos. If the laptop has a good touchpad, that’s interesting, but it shouldn’t necessarily interest you, since you’ll need to use the mouse for development.

Price Range / Budget

We recommend that you purchase a mid-range laptop for programming. This is because you don’t have to pay too much for a program laptop, as a mid-range laptop can meet almost all of your requirements. If you are a student, you can also opt for low-budget laptops. If you don’t mind expensive laptops, they are good in terms of performance. However, in this guide we have focused on mid-range laptops.

We hope you got all the answers to your questions and confusions about laptop programming.
