RAVPower’s FileHub AC750 is perhaps the best gadget for the traveller. It’s packed with great features that allow you to work on the go.
Today’s technology is getting smarter and smarter. Multifunctional devices appear everywhere to support your interest in innovation. But they’re not all really useful. Most of the extra features seem to be a trick and won’t be very useful.
RAVPower’s FileHub AC750 claims to be a 3-in-1 device. We’ll see if it can change your life or if it’s more of a trick in this magazine.
RAVPower FileHub AC750 Overview
The FileHub AC750 from RAVPower has a very robust and elegant design. It is made of matt black metal, very pleasant to the touch. It measures 4.45 x 3.03 x 0.91 inches and weighs 7 ounces.
On the front of the device 5 LEDs are visible. Each indicator tells you the current status of your device and the battery life.
On the right side of the FileHub is the only ignition key. It is placed in a very elegant way and gets good feedback when you touch it.
On the left side of the FileHub is a WiFi button that allows you to switch between 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz bandwidth. There is also a Micro SD slot adapter that allows you to connect an SD card reader to upload files to the FileHub. There is also a button to switch from SD card to USB card depending on what you want to use.
At the top of the device there is an Ethernet connection cable, a USB-A port and a USB-C port (some models are equipped with Micro-USB) for charging the device itself.
I really like the quality of the design and construction. The design is really good and it is very durable and elegant.
Wireless hard disk drive
So the RAVPower FileHub AC750 is essentially a wireless portable hard drive, just like the Sandisk Connect we reviewed last year. It transmits its own WiFi signal, so you can wirelessly store and retrieve the data from the device to your hard drive.
This is an important feature and probably the most important reason why you are considering buying this device. Nowadays it’s all about storage, and if you’re one of those people who can’t get enough storage space, wireless hard drives are great.
If you haven’t read my previous report, wireless storage systems offer many advantages, not just freshness. It eliminates OTG adapters and additional wires that can be easily lost. File sharing is also easier because other people can access your files with a simple password. Finally (which is very important to me) it can bypass the IOS and Windows barrier.
For those of you who do not yet know if you are an IOS user: Your USB stick will not work in Windows unless you format it and then delete all the files you transfer.
Actually, I borrowed the flash drive from a friend who contained the whole Game of Thrones series and I was planning on copying it. She’s using an Apple laptop, and I couldn’t open the drive to copy the files. This wireless hard drive can bypass this barrier and allow access to files.
The RAVPower FileHub AC750 offers this feature with a very high file transfer rate of 8-12 Mbps. It is also very easy to use. Just download an application called RAV FileHub, available from Google PlayStore and Itunes Store. When the connection is established, the default password is 11111111.
What’s special about RAVPower’s FileHub AC750 is that it also serves as a portable router. This means that it can convert an Ethernet cable connection into a wireless one. Like the routers in your home, but smaller and with its own battery for portability.
This is the function of the Ethernet connector on the top of the device. Once the Ethernet cable is connected to this port, it can be converted into its own WiFi, which can accommodate up to 5 connecting devices.
It’s an interesting feature you have, especially if you travel a lot. I personally had the experience to go to the station, and they didn’t have a wifi service. All they offered was an Ethernet cable that can only be connected to a laptop. RAVPower’s FileHub AC750 can solve this problem and distribute the connection over the wireless network.
Another amazing feature of this device is that it can be used as a repeater. Like when my girlfriend was in the hospital and I had to stay there for two days. The hospital offers a Wifi service, which is only suitable for one device. RAVPower’s FileHub AC750 can be connected to this Wifi and distributed as its own. It can also contain up to 5 devices at the same time. Don’t forget that the speed of the internet decreases when you connect via the Wifi bridge.
RAVPower’s FileHub AC750 acts as a router and offers bandwidths of 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz. It can reach 300 Mb/s at 2.4 GHz and 433 Mb/s at 5.0 GHz.
And last but not least: RAVPower’s FileHub AC750 can be used as an energy reservoir for emergency situations. It has a battery capacity of 6700mach, which is not at all impressive for the power supply. You can also buy cheaper energy banks with a larger battery capacity than this one.
However, you would not buy this product because it has a Power Bank. It’ll just be the icing on the cake for real emergencies. If you want to use it as a power supply, the output terminal is USB-A, which is located on the top of the unit.
In addition, the USB-A is the input slot of the device. Here you can charge the RAVPower FileHub AC750 yourself. The old version has a built-in micro USB port, while the new version has a built-in USB-C port.
RAVPower FileHub AC750 Overview
Rating 9 out of 10
I like the concept of this product very much. I’m a big fan of wireless hard drives that make life so much easier. Not only is it a wireless hard drive, but it also offers a unique opportunity to tackle the mobile phone crisis. Of course, you don’t always need him, but if you do, he can be a lifesaver. If you travel a lot, it can make the difference between boredom and the total freedom of Wi-Fi.
What I like most is the price. It is not expensive and offers excellent value for money. The quality of the product is impressive and very elegant.
However, I want a slightly larger battery. Currently the working time should be about 5-6 hours, depending on the intensive use. I wish there was a bigger battery to increase the occupancy rate. Even if you establish the Wi-Fi connection and then unplug it, you’ll have to do it over and over again. The device does not remember the previous Wi-Fi connection, so you need to re-enter your password.
The FileHub AC750 from RAVPower is however highly recommended and very impressive. It’s definitely worth buying, especially if you’re on the road all the time. You can buy the RAVPower AC750 FileHub from Amazon.com.
